Verga’s ghost village Cunziria reopens beneath Vizzini

VIZZINI — The Cunziria, the abandoned tanners’ village beneath Vizzini, Sicily, reopened on Saturday, July 4, 2026, unveiling a 20 million euro restoration funded by Italy’s Ministry of Culture, with 12 rebuilt complexes and 48 rooms and underground spaces, including an ancient mill destined for a honey laboratory.
