GERACE, Calabria — The episcopal citadel of Gerace begins work in September 2026 on a museum of the town’s 17th century maiolica ceramics, the tin glazed earthenware that once made this Calabrian hill town a production centre. Five years ago only two fragments of this heritage were known.
“The idea isn’t simply to create a place to display objects, but to recover and give value to a tradition,” Gerace Mayor Rudi Lizzi told Italy Now, “putting it in dialogue with contemporary craftsmanship, training, and the visitor experience.”
