PIETRAMONTECORVINO, Apulia — Bar Caffè Basile, open since 1888, poured its last espresso on January 26 this year, closing after 138 years in Pietramontecorvino, a small town in Apulia’s Foggia province. On August 23, the café reopened, kept alive this time not by an owner but by the town itself.
