Italy joins top longevity nations, Istat data shows

ROME — Italy has cemented its place among the world’s most long-lived countries, with life expectancy reaching 83.4 years, according to a new Istat report published on 7 April.

That places Italy ahead of the United States, where life expectancy reached a record 79 years in 2024, and above the Western European average of 82.7 years, though behind top-ranked Japan at around 85 years and the micro-states of Monaco and San Marino.
