Sinner ends Italy’s 50-year wait with win over Ruud

ROME — Fifty years is a long time to wait. When Jannik Sinner defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 on the clay of the Foro Italico on 17 May 2026, he became the first Italian man to win the Internazionali d’Italia since Adriano Panatta in 1976. He also completed a feat only one other player in history has managed.
